Post-19 ABA Supervisor

"I first found out about ABA while working at a camp in the U.S. for children with emotional and behavioural disorders. After university I moved to London to come and work at BeyondAutism and have since pursued a career in ABA with the organisation.

I started working at the secondary school and am now working as a Supervisor in the Post-19 service. On a typical day I check up on student progress and behaviour graphs and then go and work with the Tutors to make changes to how we teach those targets they are finding more difficult. I write targets each term for students and develop their behaviour plan and have lots of meetings with parents and other professionals.

My favourite part of the job is seeing the students making progress with targets when I have implemented a change to the programme. It is wonderful when I get to see the students out in the community at work experience putting into practice all the skills they have learnt.

Having worked with some of the students for several years it’s great to see their journey from the classroom to living in their own flat and gaining work experience. It’s such a privilege, it’s why we do what we do."

"I adore working for BeyondAutism, the support and positive feedback I have received from staff has been wonderful.

After graduating in 2016 from the University of Westminster in BSc (Hons) Psychology, I worked as a Teaching Assistant at a centre for children diagnosed with autism. I began working at Park House School in September 2019 as the School Receptionist. It has provided me with the perfect opportunity to learn and grow whilst still making a change in the lives of the amazing children here at Park House School. I adore working for BeyondAutism, the support and positive feedback I have received from staff has been wonderful.

My role is very diverse, and each day brings a new challenge to conquer. I am an ambassador for Park House School both in person with visitors and through phone calls and emails. I am always monitoring the welfare of our pupils and am in contact with parents and social care organisations such as local authority and pupil transport services. Furthermore, I support Park House School with any parental events, like coffee mornings or parents evenings. I am a qualified first aider and am team-teach trained meaning I support staff with pupils when needed.

The best part of my job is when I am interacting with pupils and having fun in the playground with them!"

"I can proudly say that our work is vital to the lives of the pupils, their families and carers.

I came to BeyondAutism in 2012 as a volunteer and after one month I was offered a permanent job which I was extremely happy to accept. I moved to London to begin my BeyondAutism adventure and it has been one of the best things that has happened in my life.

The pupils are truly amazing and they have so much potential! They are making exceeding progress which can be seen in all areas of life. I am proud to be part of the team that identifies and meets the needs of our learners.

As an ABA Instructor I am responsible for class management, training members of staff, conducting assessments together with my Supervisor and organising class trips. Our aim is to motivate the pupils to learn, understand why behaviour occurs, teach functional communication and develop new skills.

The pupils have taught me that nothing is impossible. To see their smile is priceless. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had."
